The Mermaid Hotel and Club opened its doors in 1983 with an inventory of fifty-one rooms and a single star rating. The express intent of the hotel developer at the time was to provide comfortable accommodation, wholesome meals and other essential facilities for the holidaymaker.

The hotel’s club concept was an addition that came in 1999 which saw  the introduction of a well-equipped sports centre, dedicated activity  pool and spa facilities among many other improvements.

Commencing 1999, constant enhancements have helped make the Mermaid Hotel and Club a highly acclaimed Sri Lanka beach resort.

The passage of time has seen the total room inventory increasing from fifty-one to  the current eighty-one, and a deluxe class of accommodation being introduced with the hotel’s most recent refurbishment in 2010.
